Dr. Farenhorst joined the Department of Soil Science in May, 1998. Her training includes a B.Sc. in Physical Geography and Soil Science (University of Amsterdam) and a Ph.D. in Soil Pesticide Chemistry (University of Toronto). Dr. Farenhorst is currently the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for the Prairie Region.
Current Research Interests:
Dr. Annemieke Farenhorst is leading the pesticide research team in the Department of Soil Science. Its team members focus on experimental, monitoring and modeling studies to quantify the spatial and temporal variability of pesticide fate in soil and water at various scales. Additional research consists of experimental work on the retention and degradation of natural steroidal estrogens in soil. Farenhorst is also a collaborator on a community-based project in Central America: http://www.umanitoba.ca/afs/centralamerica_cbpm/home_en.htm
