Wole Akinremi

Dr. Akinremi's training includes a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture/Soil Science from the University of Ife, Nigeria, and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Soil Physical Chemistry from the University of Manitoba.  Dr. Akinremi is the Acting Associate Head for the Department of Soil Science until December 31, 2012.

Current Projects:

  • Measurement of fertilizer equivalents of beef and swine manures
  • Nutrient loss from liquid versus solid swine manure in an annual and perenial cropping systems
  • Identification and quantitation of P compounds and its transformation products in a dual P band using X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES)
  • Nitrate and solute transport within the landscape
  • Temperature-moisture effect on C, N and P mineralization
  • Measurement and simulation of nitrate leaching from hog manure and commercial fertilizer

Completed Projects:

  • Phosphorus dynamics and movement in soil with long term manure application
  • Forms and reactivity of manure phosphorus from phytase fed swine in Manitoba soils
  • Advective Movement of Organic and Inorganic Phosphorus in Calcareous and Non-Calcareous Soils
  • Evaluation of the degree of P saturation for assessing the risk of P loss in Manitoba soils
  • Chemical characterization of P solubility and diffusion in a multi-ionic environment
  • Molecular speciation of phosphorus in organic amendments and amended soils using nuclear magnetic resonance and x-ray absorption spectroscopies
  • Determination of phosphorus sorption-desorption characteristics of Manitoba soils
  • Agronomic and environmental soil phosphorus testing in manured and non-manured Manitoba soils
  • A comparison between various agronomic soil test methods for phosphorus on 115 well characterized Manitoba soils
  • Laboratory and field evaluation of five soil water content sensors
  • The effect of biosolids and manures on solubility, phytoavailability and movement of phosphorus in soil
