Canwest Global Theatre Columns (1999)

Thirteen precast reinforced concrete columns for a new theatre building constructed in Winnipeg, MB. were cast in fabric molds (primarily "spandex" stretch-knit fabrics). This project represents the first structural use of fabric-cast columns.  Our work was done in collaboration with Prairie Architects, Gary Kowalchuk, Consulting Engineers, the Manitoba Chapter Of The Canadian Prestressed Concrete Institute  (Lafarge Canada & Conforce Structures Ltd.), Aluma Systems Canada, Mid-Canada Reinforcing, MRM Steel, Manta Industries Ltd., Mitchel Fabrics, and the Manitoba Fashion Institute Training Centre.

These columns were designed and built by Prof. Mark West, and Masters of Architecture students Jaspal Atwal, Christopher Sullivan and Daniel Reeves.
