The C.A.S.T. building laboratory is a unique invention of the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture, specifically designed to support a new vision of architectural education and research. This 510 square meter (5,600 square foot) building is located in the centre of the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry campus. It is situated between the Faculties of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Bio- Systems Engineering, and is close to the sculpture and ceramic studios of the School of Fine Arts.
This new building supports a fundamental change in the way architects, engineers and designers are educated. It provides the space and tools for exploratory and interdisciplinary research that simultaneously embraces both design and building technology.
The C.A.S.T. Building was designed and constructed with nearly $1.5 million (CN) in support from: the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Manitoba Innovations Fund, Western Economic Diversification Canada, and from over one hundred companies, organizations, and individuals in the construction industry.
