Truss

CAST Sculpture

Compared to solid beams, trusses save significant amounts of material and dead weight. At the moment, trusses are only available in either wood and steel. Reinforced concrete trusses are extremely rare, even though reinforced concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world. This is due to the high level of complexity involved in building a mold for a truss using conventional mold-making materials (ex. steel plates). CAST has developed a very simple method of constructing a reusable mold for prefabricating reinforced concrete trusses, using two flat sheets of fabric stretched over simple, flat, plywood constructions. A wide variety of truss designs and configurations can be constructed using this method.
