Fieldtrips
With changes in the curriculum, M2 students go on a field trip, usually aranged by Dr. Wight.
Formerly over a number of years the M1 students have gone on a field trip to a major city. Trips have been to Chicago, Minneapolis, Vancouver and Toronto and Montreal. This page describes some of the activities and presents a selection of images from these study tours. A portion of the studio time is dedicated to getting prepared for the study tour by becoming familiar with issues, initiatives and projects in the particular city region. The program includes meeting with local planners in the public and private sector, touring precedent projects, and other points of interest to planners and designers in the city and area as well as enjoying what the city has to offer. Air fare, hostel accommodation and basic expenses are paid for by a fee included as part of either Studio 1 or Studio 2. The 2003 field trip was again to Montreal Jan 28 - Feb. 03, 2002. The 2004 fieldtrip was to Saskatoon in conjunction with the CAPS conference (see UMAPS Page). A trip to the World Planning Conference and associated CAPS conference occured in 2006.
