Book Awards

Struan Sinclair (English, Film, and Theatre), Automatic World. Finalist, Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction and Finalist, McNally Robinson Book of the Year.
David Williams (English, Film, and Theatre), Media, Memory, and the First World War. Finalist, Gabrielle Roy Prize and Nominated, MLA’s James Russell Lowell Prize.
Steve Lecce (Political Studies) was nominated for 2010 C.B Macpherson Award, Canadian Political Science Association, best book in Political Theory by a Canadian Author for Against Perfectionism: Defending Liberal Neutrality.
Andrew Woolford’s (Sociology) most recent book, The Politics of Restorative Justice was recently listed by Choice (the publication of the American Library Association) as an Outstanding Academic Title for 2009. 
Gerald Friesen (History) and Esyllt Jones (History) won two major awards in 2010 for their book Prairie Metropolis: New Essays on Winnipeg Social History. The awards include the 2010 Manitoba Historical Society Margaret McWilliams Award and the 2010 Association of Manitoba Book Publishers/Manitoba Writers’ Guild Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award. The awards recognize outstanding contributions to the study and interpretation of the history of Manitoba and honours books that contribute to the appreciation and understanding of Winnipeg.
Gerald Friesen (History) and Royden Loewen’s (Chair in Mennonite Studies, Professor of History, University of Winnipeg) book Immigrants in Prairie Cities: Ethnic Diversity in Twentieth Century Canada won the Canadian Historical Association’s Clio Prize for an exceptional contribution to the regional history of the Prairies.
Liz Millward (Women’s and Gender Studies) was awarded the Canadian Women’s Studies Association Annual Book Prize for her work Women in British Imperial Airspace, 1922-1937. Montreal: McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2008.
Barry Ferguson (History) and Robert Wardhaugh (History, University of Western Ontario) (co-eds.) won the Margaret Mcwilliams Award for Scholarly Writing for Manitoba Premiers of the 19th and 20th Centuries, Canadian Plains Research Centre.
