Entrance Requirements:
- 6 hours of credit from each of 4 different subject fields
Students must apply to the Advanced degree program in the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Arts
- Attendance may be Full Time or Part Time
- 120 credit hours or 20 full courses required for the degree
Major:
- Minimum 48 credit hours; some Departments require more than the 48 credit hours
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 on all courses taken for purposes of satisfying the major
- Double majors of 48 credit hours in each of two subject fields are permitted in lieu of a major and minor
Effective September 2009:
If the major requires 48-57 credit hours, 30 credit hours of the major must be completed at the University of Manitoba or through an approved University of Manitoba exchange program.
If the major requires more than 57 credit hours, 36 credit hours of the major must be completed at the University of Manitoba or through an approved University of Manitoba exchange program.
Minor:
- Minimum 18 credit hours (except when major is Global Political Economy)
Options:
- Minimum 42 credit hours outside the major and minor or double major, plus 12 credit hours in the area of choice which could be courses from the major, minor or other subjects
Other Degree Requirements:
- To be satisfied within the 120 credit hours for the degree
- Written English and Mathematics requirement (minimum of 3 credit hours in each)
- Must complete 6 hours in a Humanities, a Social Science and a Science (view requirements)
- Must complete 6 hours of credit from each of 5 different subject fields
- Must complete 42 credit hours of course work at the 200 level or higher
- Must satisfy a residency requirement of 60 credit hours at the University of Manitoba
- Must complete General Degree requirements within first 90 credit hours
- Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average on 120 hours offered for degree credit
- Must have 81 credit hours of courses taught by Arts (May include 36 hours of Mathematics, Faculty of Music, or Art History courses)
