The Program

Graduates of the program will have a broader knowledge base, be more effective in managing human and physical resources and earn the right to use the designation C.I.M. ("Certified in Management") after their name. Currently, alumni can be found at all levels of the business community, including company presidents. Enthusiastic responses from service, technical, quality control, design engineering, industrial sales, marketing, financial, and production planning organizations further confirm the high calibre of CIM graduates.

The program, which normally takes four years to complete, consists of seven required courses and one elective course. It is portable. You can start in one centre and complete it in another.

The program is offered in co-operation with the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM). With over 800 members, the Winnipeg Branch of the CIM is the largest in Canada.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, you must have at least two years supervisory or four years work experience in a management environment. If you are interested in this program but have questions about your eligibility, please contact the Program Administrator to discuss your interest in more detail.

Note: The membership portion of the course fee is non-refundable and membership continues for the remainder of the year. Student information will be forwarded to the Canadian Institute of Management for inclusion in the CIM membership roster.

Course Progression

Unless there is a course prerequisite requirement, registrants may continue with their Winter term course even if they have not successfully completed their Fall term course.

Introductory Accounting for Business is a prerequisite for Financial Management.

Students cannot enter Strategic Analysis until they have successfully completed the previous seven courses in the program.

Certification/Graduation

The Certificate in Management and Administration is awarded at a formal graduation exercise. The CIM 48th Annual Graduation is scheduled for June 21, 2014.

To qualify for graduation, you must complete all course work within seven years of initial registration in the program. Students seeking CIM credit must achieve a minimum grade of "C" (60%) in each required and elective course.

The C.I.M. (Certified in Management) designation is granted to all graduates of the program. In order to be eligible to graduate in June, students must submit the "Application for Graduation". All course work must be completed by April 30.

Institute Awards

The Canadian Institute of Management recognizes excellence in the program by awarding Honours standing to those graduates achieving a program grade point average of 4.0 or higher. The Winnipeg Branch's Outstanding Academic Performance Award recognizes the top three graduates with a Gold, Silver or Bronze Award. Please note that students with more than three course exemptions are not eligible for awards or Honours standing.

New students must submit the Application to Enter Certificate Program and Course Registration Form as directed. Please note CIM membership fees cannot be submitted on the web.

Transfer Credit

Do I have options to continue my education once I complete the CIM program?

Yes! A degree is closer than you think! Once you complete the CIM program with Continuing Education, you can block transfer up to 24 credits of the 90 you will need to graduate over to the Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies Degree (BAIS).

Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies Degree

This new 90 credit hour degree program is offered by the Faculty of Arts. It was developed, in collaboration with Extended Education, for working adults who have completed some post-secondary education and would like to complete an undergraduate degree.
If you’re a mid-career adult who never had the chance to start a university degree or to finish one, then the Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies is for you. Now it’s possible for you to earn an undergraduate degree – the credential that more and more employers require in the workplace. If you want to advance within your profession, make a career change or are interested in a professional or personal challenge, this program is a perfect place to start. And you can do it all while still working full-time. You’ll engage in exciting new learning and the intellectual challenges that lead to professional and personal growth.

Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies – a degree that gives you choices:

• Complete a university degree part-time while working full-time.
• Get credit for U of M certificates and degree courses you’ve already completed.
• Focus on what’s relevant to your professional and personal interests.
• Choose from convenient course delivery formats (e.g. face-to-face, blended, online).
• Select courses from flexible schedules that suit working adults.

With this degree you will be able to:

Who is the Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies (BAIS) for? Do any of these describe you?

• Graduate of one of these U of M Continuing Education certificate programs:
• Certificate in Human Resource Management (HRM), Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education (CACE) or Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting (FMA).
• Graduate of the Certificate in Management and Administration (C.I.M.) from any accredited post-secondary institution.
• Graduate of a diploma program at the University of Manitoba or other post-secondary institution.
• Successfully completed some university courses and may or may not have completed a degree.
• The job you want requires a degree, but you don’t have a degree.
• Unemployed or “underemployed” and know a degree will open up more job and career possibilities for you.
