The two Certificates in Case Management offer comprehensive courses that will prepare you to provide professional case management services in general practice or the field of rehabilitation. If you have experience in client services and are, or expect to be, working in a position that requires a comprehensive knowledge of case management concepts and skills, these programs will meet your training needs.

This program is for individuals who want to prepare for future positions in Canada's rapidly changing health and social service sectors by gaining a general background in Case Management.
If you are looking for opportunities to draw on your experience in client services to prepare for a second career, or you want to move beyond an entry level position, this comprehensive training and formal certification in case management can help you realize your career objectives.
Students who take the Certificate in General Case Management must complete the three required courses in the order listed and a minimum of 108 hours of approved electives.

You learn about various case management models, principles of social and physical rehabilitation and functional and psycho-social theories in rehabilitation.
This comprehensive program provides you with knowledge of client systems in the rehabilitation environment and the role of a rehabilitation team in achieving desired outcomes for the client and the client system.
It teaches competencies in communication and problem solving skills with a rehabilitation team; and skills in marketing and negotiating rehabilitation plans for the client, the service system and service funders.
If you are, or anticipate working as a case manager in the field of rehabilitation, this program will provide you with the specialized training you require.
To receive the Certificate in Rehabilitation Case Management students must complete the CMC required courses prior to CMR required courses.

The Case management Certificates have been granted transfer of credit recognition from the Faculty of Social Work.
Graduates of the program who are accepted into the Faculty of Social Work are eligible for three unallocated credits.

In addition to completing the Application to Enter Certificate Program, you must submit a letter of intent that describes your reasons for seeking admission to either of the certificate programs.
Please comment on how your personal goals and career objectives relate to the program.
The letter of intent should be one page.
(Individual applicants)
If you are applying as an individual, you need to have a letter of appraisal written by a current or former employer or volunteer work supervisor who is familiar with your experience and interest in client services.
Provide the person writing the letter with the description of the program. The letter should refer specifically to your work or volunteer experience. It should comment on your written and oral communication skills, planning and analytical skills, intellectual abilities and demonstrated interest in Case Management Education.
The letter of appraisal should be one or two pages.

The letters become the property of the University of Manitoba and will not be released to any person or organization external to the University.
The appraiser may provide you with a separate copy of the letter.
Your letters of appraisal and intent, where possible, should arrive thirty (30) days prior to the course start date to allow time for processing.
(Group applicants)
Letters of appraisal are accepted for group applicants sponsored by a single employer.
Students must complete Foundations of Case Management as the first course in either Certificate Program followed by Developing Core Case Management Skills: Individual and the Family followed by Developing Core Case Management Skills: Community and Workplace.
If you are in the Certificate in General Case Management, you may complete your electives at any time after completing Foundations of Case Management.
If you are registered in the Certificate in Rehabilitation Case Management, you must complete the three core courses before registering in the rehabilitation courses.
Course fees range from $325 to $425 and are subject to change. You may wish to ask your employer for the possibility of reimbursement.
To provide flexibility in content and delivery, an individual, or group of students can meet with the program director to design an elective course that meets the particular learning need. The flexible study course may be a special topics course, a practicum, an individual reading course or small group seminar.
All required courses are graded on the U of M letter grade system following established evaluation procedures, and a determination of the student’s Personal suitability to proceed.
Course work is evaluated on the following criteria: attendance, class participation, demonstrated skill competency and/or successful completion of assignments, or projects.
Students will receive a letter grade. In order to quality for the certificate, students must successfully pass all courses and maintain an overall average of 2.5 (C+).
A grade of incomplete may be assigned if minimal competency is not achieved. A grade of fail (F) will be assigned if incompletes are not successfully completed by the date agreed upon by the instructor and student, or if the student does not successfully meet other criteria.
To graduate with either the Certificate in General Case Management or the Certificate in Rehabilitation Case Management you must successfully complete the required and elective courses, attain a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 (C+) and complete the program within six years of initial registration in the program. Students who earn a grade point average of 4.1 or higher will graduate with distinction.
It is the responsibility of each student to be familiar with the graduation requirements of the program in which they are enrolled. In order to be eligible to graduate, students must submit the Continuing Education Application for Graduation by the deadline date indicated on the form.
