Are you a Case Manager and does your work involve organizing, coordinating and sustaining a complex network of formal and informal support to workers already in or returning to a site with psychosocial and multiple workplace stressors? Do you work in a similar environment? The 16th annual symposium draws attention to you, your work, and your work environment. It questions the underlying assumptions of case management; challenges work place stressors; addresses emerging issues in mental health, addiction, functional assessments; and, examines current provincial policies on psychologically healthy workplaces.
Keynote Address: Psychologically Healthy Workplace
Speaker: Maureen Grace
The Canadian Standards Association released a new standard for workplaces this year – the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace. This presentation introduces the standard navigates through the factors of psychological safety and explores strategies for creating a psychologically safe workplace. Understanding the factors or psychological safety and its effect on the mental health and productivity of workers will be covered. Areas of strengths and weaknesses in the workplace will be identified. Developing strategies for implementation in organizations to improve and/or create a psychologically safe workplace will also be covered.
Mental Health Issues
Speaker: Carl Heaman Warren
Depression, anxiety and suicide are becoming more prominent in the workplace and in the lives of many. Whether it’s a family member, co-worker or an employee, we all know someone who has been diagnosed with a mental illness. This session will help you proactively recognize and understand mental illness from a case management perspective and what your role might be in helping to address these issues.
Functional Assessment
Speaker: Stephanie Roberecki
Conducting a thorough functional assessment is an important part of a healthy workplace. Using a hands-on experiential learning approach, the session takes you through emerging and active ways of conducting an assessment. Playing a dynamic role in the assessment, the session examines physical and verbal components; measures to check veracity and validity; methods for physical testing; and, best practice approaches to functional assessment.
Addictive Behaviours
Speaker: Zenon Lisakowski
The session will look at the various issues of addictions including Stages of Change, determinants of health and difference between process addiction and substance addiction. Strategies will be discussed on how to assist individuals who are struggling with addictive behaviours to reach a desired goal, Including identifying an individual's readinness for change. This presentation adds necessary skills to the manager's tool belt.
