The purpose of this certificate program is to provide individuals with an essential body of knowledge required to assume administrative responsibilities within small to mid-size municipalities.

The program, which normally takes three years to complete consists of five required courses and one elective course. Students have five years from the date of registration in the program to complete the requirements for this certificate.

NACLAA3 Courses 4

Students in the CMMA certificate program must take one of following three courses: either Leadership for Municipal Managers: Concept, Principles and Application (available online through the Univerisity of Manitoba; or Local Government (08200) or Public Administration Professionalism (08201) through the NACLAA program offered at the University of Alberta.
Students taking one of the NACLAA courses must register directly with the University of Alberta and after successfully completing their course with a minimum grade of "C", students submit a Certificate Course Credit Request form and an original transcript to the Program Administrator. The registration form for the NACLAA courses can be found at http://www.extension.ualberta.ca/govstudies/ or call, toll free, with questions to 1-877-686-4625. We recommend that students do not wait until their final year in the CMMA program to take the NACLAA course as the grades will not arrive from the University of Alberta in time for students to graduate in the same academic year.
1 This one-semester (3-month) course is offered by distance delivery in the Spring, Fall and Winter sessions and on campus in the Fall sessions.

There are no educational requirements. Those employed, or wishing to be employed, in the municipal field are invited to apply.
One-day tutorial sessions are held in Winnipeg and Brandon for most courses. Although they are not mandatory, students are strongly encouraged to attend. Additional information is included on the course web site.
All students must find a suitable final examination supervisor. Complete information on the final examination is included onthe course web site.
Most courses consist of a combination of term work (assignments) and a final exam. In order to pass a course, you must score at least 50% on the final exam and achieve a minimum overall course grade of "C" (60%)
Local Government, Government of Manitoba and the Manitoba Municipal Administrators' Association (MMAA) are co-sponsors of this program. Representatives from the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) are also on the Program's Advisory Committee.
To qualify for graduation and receive a certificate, students must complete all required courses and seminars within 5 years of initial registration in the program. An overall Grade point Average of at least 2.0 (C) is required to graduate. Upon completion of this certificate program students achieving an overall GPA of 3.8 or higher, will be eligible to receive a certificate "with distinction".
New students must submit the Application to Enter Certificate Program and Course Registration Form as directed.
