The Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC)

In co-operation with PMAC, the University of Manitoba, Extended Education, offers both the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) accreditation and the Supply Management Training program.

  • The Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) Accreditation is the highest achievement in professional supply chain management education in Canada and may be earned by completing the Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program.
  • Supply Management Training consists of introductory technical courses, soft skill seminars and business management seminars.

Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) accreditation

The Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation sets the national standard for excellence in supply chain management in Canada. It is the most sought-after achievement in the profession. A comprehensive accreditation program certifies that the SCMP has attained the highest level of competency. Adherence to a Code of Ethics ensures the highest level of integrity.

With procurement, operations, logistics and all areas of supply chain management playing an increasingly important role in organizations, more employers are seeking skilled professionals to do the job.

The Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program focuses on strategic supply chain management to meet the evolving needs of the marketplace.

The Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program

Participants are required to complete:

  • Eight modules focused on the foundations of supply chain management. Modules 1 – 4 are available through the University of Manitoba, Extended Education. Modules 5 – 8 are available through the Manitoba Institute of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (MIPMAC).
  • Six interactive workshops designed to address high-level business skills. The workshops are delivered by MIPMAC.
  • An in-residence week intended to facilitate integration of knowledge gained from the modules and workshops
  • A final written examination to assess the knowledge acquired through the program and practical experience

The Program Modules

Note: Modules 1 – 4 are available through the University of Manitoba, Extended Education. Modules 1 – 4 each consist of 13 sessions or 39 classroom hours. Modules 5 – 8 each consist of 7 sessions or 21 classroom hours.

Program Admission

Registrations for the Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program modules (1-4) are accepted by the University of Manitoba, Extended Education, for September start-ups. A letter indicating prior approval from the Manitoba Institute of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (MIPMAC) must accompany applications for admission. Program Prerequisites

Prerequisites include one of the following:
* A Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, OR
* A Bachelor of Commerce Degree, OR
* An equivalent number of management courses

Program Registration

Registration for course modules (1-4) is completed through the University of Manitoba.
Registration for workshops is completed through the Manitoba Institute of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (MIPMAC)

Course Progression

Students are encouraged to complete year one requirements before entering year two.

Supply Management Training (SMT) Program

Today’s global market demands skilled entry to mid-level practitioners to support the management of increasingly complex upstream and downstream components of extended supply chains. PMAC provides a series of courses and seminars in supply management to meet this need for proficiency in functional area processes and technical competencies.

Supply Management Training consists of introductory technical courses, offered through the University of Manitoba, Extended Education, and soft skill and business seminars offered through the MIPMAC. Participants can access a single course or a seminar, or can complete the entire package to earn a Certificate in Supply Management.

Who Will Benefit?

The intended audience is junior and intermediate practitioners requiring a technical competence in supply management. The training will also be of interest to those seeking knowledge of supply management at an introductory level.

The Program

Four technical courses each consisting of 13 weeks of instruction (or 39 classroom hours) are offered through the University of Manitoba, Extended Education and include:

Three soft skill seminars are available through the Manitoba Institute of PMAC and include:

  • Negotiation Skills (4 days)
  • Communication and Relational Skills (3 days)
  • Contract Law and Administration (2 days)

Three business management seminars are available through the Manitoba Institute of PMAC and include:

  • Accounting and Finance (2 days)
  • Marketing (2 days)
  • Business Planning (2 days)
