ARMA Winnipeg Chapter and the University of Manitoba, in consultation with other records and information management leaders, have partnered to deliver the following two professional development options to individuals with responsibility for electronic and paper records and information management.
Option 1: Letter of Accomplishment in Records and Information Management (RIM)
Option 2: Certificate in Applied Management: Records and Information Management (RIM) Specialization
Each option has been developed with an in-depth understanding of standards and principles for governing records, rapidly changing business practices, the ongoing evolution of electronic records and the need for professional development.
This two-course program prepares individuals to apply the Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles® (GARP®), an internationally recognized set of standards used for governing and managing information within organizations. Students learn the components of a successful record and information management program and how legal, technical and archival issues affect RIM practices for conventional print records, as well as for micrographic and electronic records. Changing expectations, economic conditions and new and emerging trends in records and information management are covered.
Note: Principles and Concepts of Records and Information Management may be taken as a stand-alone course or as a prerequisite for Strategic Information Management. Successful completion of both courses will result in a Letter of Accomplishment. Students who wish to continue their studies in the CAM RIM Specialization may apply the two courses for credit in the electives portion of the Certificate program.
The ARMA Winnipeg Chapter: Records and Information Management (RIM) Specialization is a comprehensive program that allows students to merge specialized studies in records and information management with general management knowledge and skills. Students are required to complete the three core Certificate in Applied Management (CAM) courses (see page xx) and three courses from the Specialization. The following two Specialization courses are required and must be taken in the order presented:
The third Specialization course may be selected from the following list:
Records and Information Management is an important part of organizational governance similar to that of accounting, legal, human resources and other functions. The Certificate in Applied Management: Records and Information Management (RIM) Specialization will be of interest to employers who want to increase the managerial capacity of employees who are responsible for managing records and information, or who want to enhance their own understanding of business and legal obligations in records and information management. This Specialization will be of particular interest to mid level managers and to those in junior positions who are seeking career advancement.
