Prior to starting the Intensive English Program a placement test is taken to determine the English proficiency level of students. Students are then placed in a level best suited to their English ability.
The test can be taken online before arrival at the University of Manitoba. Instructions to take the test will be sent to new students approximately two weeks before their scheduled start date.
Access to a computer with the following specifications is required to write the test.

Second, the test must be completed under the following conditions:
- Do the test by yourself without anybody’s assistance;
- Do not use any type of dictionary;
- Do not attempt to reproduce the test.
