
Over the next four years, the Brazilian government, through its Ministries of Education, and Science and Technology, will spend $2 billion to help send more than 100,000 of its best students to universities globally through the Science Without Borders (SWB) Scholarship Program.
Canada will receive about 12,000 students, the second-highest total of all recipient countries.
In September 2012, through the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE), the University of Manitoba welcomed its first 80 Brazilian students as part of this joint initiative.
At the University of Manitoba, the one-year study period is divided into three parts and will be administered through Extended Education’s English Language Studies and International Programs (ELSIP):
Language training (if required), with the Intensive English Program
Academic courses with ESL Support
Research/industry placement
For the 2012-2013 school year, participating faculties at the University of Manitoba include Agriculture, Architecture, Arts, Engineering, Human Ecology, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Science.
While at the University of Manitoba, students have the option to indicate an accommodation preference for homestay, on-campus residence or off-campus residence.
Students in ELSIP are encouraged to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities such as Conversation Café, fields trips to various places of interest both in Winnipeg and Manitoba, as well as activities on and off campus.
