Voluntary withdrawal (VW) is a process whereby a student can withdraw from or drop a course. You must formally withdraw from a course or a grade will be assigned, fees will remain outstanding and late fees and Holds will be in effect.
You must withdraw from courses using Aurora Student (see Procedure below). Courses dropped on or before the last day to register for a course (see Important Dates) do not appear on your official transcript. Courses dropped after these dates will be recorded as VWs on official transcripts or student histories.
Refunds are based on the date the Voluntary Withdrawal is completed (See Refund Schedule and Irregular Refund Schedule). In order to determine the VW deadline date and/or refund schedule for a course, you must first identify its "Part of Term", which will be posted in the online Class Schedule Listing for the start of registration (aurora.umanitoba.ca → Class Schedule). Also note that in Summer Session, the refund period is short because of the compressed nature of the course schedules.
Remember to withdraw from courses you do not plan to attend - failure to pay fees will not cancel your registration.
The VW deadline and/or refund dates for courses with irregular class dates are different, go to Irregular Refund Schedule for a list of these courses.
VW dates differ for Distance and Online Education courses. Refer to Distance and Online Education Guide for more Information.
To withdraw from a course, go to Aurora Student, Enter Secure Area and login. Select Enrolment & Academic Records, Registration, and then Add or Drop courses. If you were required to register by mail or in person, submit the required registration revision form, or notify the Dean's or Director's Office in writing, not later than 4:30 p.m. of the deadline date for withdrawal. A verbal request to an instructor to withdraw from a course or change a section, or merely ceasing to attend the course is not acceptable.
Students who are on Hold may not VW from courses through Aurora. Students must clear the Hold or contact their faculty for assistance.
Subject to the provision of satisfactory documentation to the student's faculty of registration, Authorized Withdrawals (AWs) may be permitted on medical or compassionate grounds. AWs do not appear on an official transcript.
