INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
Application for the Summer Session Innovation Fund
PURPOSE
The Extended Education Division will designate up to $25,000 to encourage the development of innovative programs including developing courses in a blended learning format for Summer Session 2013.
The purpose of the fund is to support collaborative initiatives that are particularly suited to Summer Session. These types of programs may cater to special groups of students or may take advantage of resources and conditions that are only available during the summer. For example, a new summer institute that combines the efforts of two or more departments, or an existing course that is offered in a novel format and/or in a collaborative fashion. Special consideration will be given to proposals to develop blended learning courses.
GUIDELINES
- Innovative proposals that are multidisciplinary, collaborative and/or community-oriented will be given high priority as will proposals to develop courses in a blended learning format. As well, special consideration will be given to proposals to develop blended learning courses.
- Programs or courses supported by this fund must be offered as part of Summer Session.
- Proposals may involve new or experimental courses or existing courses taught in novel formats, including courses taught in blended learning formats, and may be either for degree or non-degree credit.
- Funds may be used to cover the costs of travel of instructors, materials, teaching assistant funds for course development, equipment, or other such costs Summer Session deems to be directly related to the project. Funds may not be used for instructor stipends for teaching or course development, except for courses developed in a blended learning format. Instructor stipends are paid by Summer Session subject to minimum enrolment.
- Awards normally will not exceed $2,500.
- Proposals will be reviewed and rank ordered by a selection committee that will be advisory to the Dean of the Extended Education Division. The committee will be made up of representatives from major participating faculties in Summer Session and the Extended Education Division.
- A brief report, including a statement of how funds were spent and an assessment of outcomes must be submitted to the Director of Summer Session within 2 months of the completion of the course/program.
- Recipients are expected to acknowledge assistance received from the Summer Session Innovation Fund on promotional materials related to the course or program.
ELIGIBILITY
- Any faculty member or administrator involved in arranging or teaching programs in Summer Session may submit a proposal. All proposals must have the support of the department head or head of the administrative/academic unit.
- Deans, directors, and department heads may initiate a proposal on behalf of their faculty, school or department.
- Normally only one proposal will be accepted from a department or administrative unit.
- Travel/Study course proposals are not eligible.
- Graduate courses are not normally eligible.
