University Book Store

The University Book Store is owned and operated by the University of Manitoba. The University Book Store operates on the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses: Fort Garry Book Store located in University Centre (204)474-8321, and the Health Sciences Book Store located in the Brodie Centre on Bannatyne Avenue (204)789-3601.

Textbook Purchasing

Students are advised to purchase textbooks well in advance of the start of Summer Session courses. The textbook listing is available at the Book Store or by calling (204)474-8321, or online.

Summer Session Bursary Program (May - August)

Annual Deadline to submit applications to the Financial Aid & Awards Office, first working day of May. Results are available in early July & successful recipients will receive a letter in the mail (ensure your address is up-to-date in Student Aurora).

  • Summer Session Bursary Eligibility: 
    Canadian Citizens & Permanent Residents of Canada - You must register for and complete a minimum 60% course load to be eligible. Full time eligibility in summer session is a minimum 6 credit hours (within a minimum 6 week period to 8 week maximum). If attending continuously (no breaks of 3 weeks or more between classes) between May - August, you must complete 9 credit hours minimum. All Canadian students must have proof of an approved Government Student Loan for the 2013 summer session (past academic sessions do not count).
  • International Undergraduate Students - You must register for and complete a minimum of 6 credit hours within the summer session to qualify. You also must be paying the International Tuition Surcharge to be eligible.  

  • Graduate students please note: If you have already received a bursary based upon the Fall/Winter, Regular session bursary application (deadline was Oct. 1st), you are not eligible to apply for the Summer Session bursary as the Summer Session was already calculated in your original application.

Parking Services

Student parking is available throughout Summer Session. Parking for Summer Session will be by permit only. Summer Session permits are valid in any regular student parking area (see map). Parking for Summer Session (after 4:30 p.m.) is free of charge, no permit is required (except the Parkade).

During Summer Session, valid parking permits must be displayed in all parking lots during weekdays, Monday - Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Student parking permits must be purchased from Parking Services. Please visit Parking for rates and other information.

Summer Session rates apply to students registered in Summer Session academic courses. There are no refunds or exchanges for any Summer Session permits.

Casual and visitor parking is available at meters and pay and display lots, and in the parkade. On weekends, holidays, and after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, casual and visitor parking is free in staff, student, meter and ticket dispenser lots only.

Lot “SD” ticket dispenser is available at a reduced rate. Rate is posted at entrance.

Parking is not permitted at any time in 24 hour reserved areas, no parking zones, accessible spaces and all other restricted areas.

University of Manitoba Food Services – by ARAMARK Campus Services

During Summer Session a range of Food Services is available to the students, staff and faculty of the University of Manitoba. For your convenience, Vending Machines are strategically located around the campus.

A cashless, declining balance card is available for all students, faculty, or staff to use campus-wide. Contact the ARAMARK Campus Services Office at (204)474-6162 or visit Room 207 Pembina Hall for more information (located on the second floor of the Speechly/Tache Complex).

For spring and summer food service hours of operation, please see the posted campus hours at any facility. (Hours of service may be subject to change.)

Campo Café is in the University Centre Building on the main level.

Tim Horton’s is also located on the main level of University Centre.

Greenhouse Café can be found in the Dafoe Tunnel adjacent to the Arts Complex.

Catering Services, Room 230 University Centre, are available year round. Call the Special Functions Office at (204)474-8336 for orders and information.

Recreation Facilities

To encourage recreation and athletic programs on campus, the University maintains a wide variety of facilities. For details, go to Bison Sport and Active Living.

 

Security Services

The UM Security Services Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides a safe and secure environment to students, staff, and visitors of the University community.  Numerous programs and services to the university community are offered. Some of these programs and services include: Non Violent Crisis Intervention training, Rape Aggression Defence training, Safewalk Program, Community Based Policing, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, Alcohol and Drug Education, Emergency Red Phones, Code Blue Phones, and Closed Circuit Television monitoring. The Code Blues and Emergency Red Phones located throughout the campus provide a direct link to Security Services.

The department consists of two units: Patrol Officers and Student Patrols. Student Patrols are members of the Safewalk Program and provide escorts to members of the university community to and from any location on University property. Patrol Officers are sworn Peace Officers in the Province of Manitoba and enforce Federal and Provincial statutes as well as municipal by-laws and University of Manitoba Policies.
