ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
An appropriate professional degree or B.Sc. (Hon.) degree with a satisfactory background in biological sciences or satisfactory completion of a Pre-Master's program in the department. (Note that Graduate Studies requires a grade point average of 3.0 or better in the last two years of the undergraduate program).
MINIMUM COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
The M.Sc. program requires the satisfactory completion of course requirements as specified by each student's Supervisory Committee and a thesis based on original research. Minimum course requirements are 12 credit hours plus Course 100.719 Communication Skills in Dental Research (unless they have previous credit for an equivalent course). M.Sc. students are expected to attend all departmental seminars. Students shall present one seminar on their own research to the Department each year - updating it each year.
SUPERVISORY COMMITTEE:
A supervisory committee consisting of a minimum of three persons, one of whom must be from outside the Department must be appointed for each student by the student's advisor. This committee shall later function as the Thesis Examining Committee. The student's advisor acts as chairman of the committee. It is the duty of this committee to approve the student's program of study and to exercise general supervision over the student's work until graduation. The committee shall meet with the student at least once a year in May and subsequently report the student's progress to the Department of Oral Biology Committee on Graduate Studies and Research. A student has the right to meet with the supervisory committee at any time provided suitable advance notice is given.
THESIS EXAMINATION:
Students must pass an oral examination on the subject of the thesis and matters relating thereto. The examination shall be open to all members of the University community who wish to attend. The form of the oral examination shall be the same as that for the Ph.D. thesis oral examination described in the Faculty of Graduate Studies Regulations governing the Ph.D. program.
