Oral health is a rapidly changing field. Since its beginning in 1958, the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Dentistry has contributed significantly to change by successfully preparing its graduates for rewarding careers in Canada and throughout the world in private practice, teaching, research, and other oral health fields. Nationally and internationally recognized, the Faculty prepares oral health professionals to make a difference – a difference in the public’s overall health and wellness today and tomorrow.


The D.M.D. program... an accredited foundation

The Faculty of Dentistry’s Doctor of Dental Medicine program is a fully accredited four-year program. Our goal is to educate students in all our programs to the highest standard, launching them as capable new professionals. Competency-bases curricula develop student abilities in the basic sciences, in prevention and comprehensive clinical care, in communication and career management skills, in the use of oral health technology, in the care of needy population groups, and in ethical and legal practice. Students begin to develop their skills early in their theoretical and practical education provides first- year students hands-on clinical experience.


The People

More than just state-of-the-art clinics and pre-clinical teaching and research laboratories, the Faculty of Dentistry academic and support staff provide a positive learning environment for over 100 dental students, 52 dental hygiene students, and 25 graduate students – students from a variety of cultural, academic, and experiential backgrounds. In the midst of over 22,000 University of Manitoba students, this unique, intimate environment with small class sizes, provides a sense of belonging and the opportunity to develop bonds that last a lifetime.


The Team

Dentistry + Dental Hygiene + Graduate Program = the ability to provide comprehensive care for patients and a rich experience for students and faculty, all under one roof. Dental and dental hygiene students learn and work in teams, collaboratively providing care for their patients. Specialists are available for consultation and referral, including experts from the disciplines of Endodontics, Oral Biology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Pathology, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, and Public Health.
