Practicum Requirements All Teacher Candidates are required by Manitoba Education to complete 12 weeks of practicum. In most cases, Teacher Candidates are placed at the same school with the same Faculty Advisor for both terms of the school year. The practicum is supervised and evaluated by a Faculty Advisor and is graded as a Pass/Fail course. See the Practicum Course Information for specific practicum expectations.
All teacher candidates requesting practicum must submit a Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check and comply with Self-Declaration procedure.
The School Experiences Office (SEO), specifically the Director, is responsible for the Practicum course in the Faculty of Education. The SEO coordinates placements for teacher candidates while accommodating requests from our educational partners. Each year our office places approximately 500 teacher candidates in about 160 schools in over 20 school divisions throughout Manitoba.
Although the SEO tries to accommodate all teacher candidate requests, we also must accommodate our educational partners’ needs. Therefore, not all requests can be accommodated nor can stream specific placements be guaranteed.
Teacher Candidates are not allowed to make their own practicum placement arrangement. |
