Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba, the largest and most comprehensive in the province!

The Faculty has been a vital part of the university and the broader educational community since 1963 and since that time, thousands of our graduates have contributed to the high quality of education in Manitoba, across Canada and around the world. We are very proud of our alumni and their many accomplishments and very appreciative of their generous financial support which enables us to offer innovative programming in a wide variety of areas.

As with many other professions, the expectations of teachers and administrators are greater than they have ever been. To meet those expectations, the Faculty of Education offers programs at the bachelor, master, doctoral, and post-baccalaureate levels. Many of our faculty have recent classroom teaching experience, have been recognized locally, nationally, and internationally for their research and outreach activities, and have the theoretical and pedagogical expertise to prepare teachers for the challenges of 21st century teaching.

Two recent developments in our Faculty include the June, 2013 approval of our new
Bachelor of Education program, which (pending Senate approval) will be rolled out in September, 2014 and our 5-Year Strategic Plan, which will provide us with a roadmap for the future in a variety of areas such as: Aboriginal Education, International Education, Community Outreach, and Educational Research.
