Steps to locating University of Manitoba Theses and Dissertations
Recent theses and dissertations are available online through the University of Manitoba Libraries. Most of the documents available online date from 2005 to most recently completed.
Below are instructions on how to access the documents for registered student and non-registered students.
Registered Students
Use your
Library ID and PIN to locate dissertations in the Library Database. This is the most effective method to search for previously completed theses, however you can use the library catalogue if you prefer.
Non-Registered Students
If you are not a University of Manitoba student, you can be assigned a temporary ID and PIN from a library staff member at any of the U of M libraries to access the Library Databases. The Library Databases are the most effective means for accessing past theses and dissertations. Alternatively, you can use the library catalogue to find what you are looking for.
Using the Library Catalogue
- Visit the University of Manitoba Libraries’ webpage.
- In the middle column under Find, click on Library Catalogue Search
- In the Search box, type in education thesis
To narrow your search add additional terms, ie. education thesis teaching
Because no subject headings are assigned to theses as is done with books, other documents will appear.
- In the drop down box for Limit by Library, scroll to and select Elizabeth Dafoe Library
- Click on the Search box at the bottom of the screen to access education theses or dissertations**
**Any education thesis or dissertation written by a University of Manitoba student will be listed, starting from the most current, displaying 10 records per page.
Using Library Databases
It is possible to do a more detailed subject search if you have a Library ID and PIN.
- From the Libraries’ webpage, in the middle column under Find, click on Articles & Databases
- Click on P and scroll down to Proquest
- At this point, a box will appear asking for your Library ID and PIN
- The opening screen will show a list of databases. Click on Clear all databases
- Scroll down to Dissertations & Theses @ University of Manitoba, check the box and at the bottom of the page select Continue
- At the top of the next screen, select the green tab labeled "Advanced" to narrow your search.
- In the Advanced search screen, there are more search options including: search by topic, title, author, date.
