Research Interests

Dr. Hare studies marine chemistry in the Arctic, specifically focusing on the pH (acidity) of sea ice and seawater as they relate to the carbonate system and the seawater freezing process. Dr. Hare also studies organic carbon and mercury (Hg) in marine sediments, providing insight into environmental processes such as productivity and carbon mineralization, as well as chronologies of anthropogenic contaminant deposition. The behaviour of Hg in estuaries as it transits from freshwater (riverine) systems to the ocean is also currently part of Dr. Hare's research focus.
