Ms. Choy studies the diet and energetics of the eastern Beaufort Sea beluga population. The main objective of her project concerns the energetic consequences of changes in prey dynamics to the eastern Beaufort Sea belugas. Her first objective will be to identify the seasonal and offshore deepwater diet of belugas using stomach contents, stable isotopes, and fatty acid/lipid profiles. Her second objective will be to study diving and foraging energetics in relation to prey, and develop a bioenergetic model of the beluga population.
