Ph.D. University of Manitoba: On the use of modelling, observations and remote sensing to better understand the Canadian Prairie soil-crop-atmosphere system

Dr. Brimelow is interested in exploring various aspects of convective precipitation on the Canadian Prairies. Before embarking on his Ph.D., his research focused on modelling maximum hail size and severe thunderstorms. During his Ph.D., Julian investigated linkages between soil moisture, vegetation health, and thunderstorm activity on the Canadian Prairies. The latter research was intended to improve our understanding of mechanisms that may exacerbate or perpetuate drought.
Dr. Brimelow has worked as a meteorologist for the South African Weather Service and the British Antarctic Survey, and a research assistant at the University of Alberta. He is a member of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society as well as the American Geophysical Union.
