Message from the Dean |
Welcome to the University of Manitoba, a member of Canada’s prestigious U15 group of research universities.
Founded in 1877, the University of Manitoba was the first university in Western Canada, establishing a long tradition of excellence built on the strengths of our people, our programs, our research and scholarly activity, and our community.
The University of Manitoba is home to world-renowned scientists, engineers, artists, entrepreneurs, scholars, intellectuals, pioneers, explorers, and trailblazers, including 44 Canada Research Chairs. More than 1600 faculty contribute to the graduate enterprise, offering an exceptional education that includes mentoring, training, and imparting of professional skills, to ensure our graduates find fulfilling careers.
The University of Manitoba offers a rich and comprehensive selection of Master’s and doctoral options, with more than 140 graduate programs leading to 26 different degrees. In addition, students wishing to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries can assemble their own Individual Interdisciplinary Studies program. From Agribusiness to Zoology (Biological Sciences), our programs are built on current curricula and taught in state-of-the-art facilities. Take a look at our offerings; we’re sure to have a program that suits your interest.
Our graduate programs are enhanced by research and scholarly activity that has earned international praise in fields such as Arctic science, Indigenous knowledge, resource management, epidemiology, cultural studies, microelectronics, communications, grain storage, infectious diseases, crystallography, and entrepreneurship, to name a few. This leading-edge research requires world-class infrastructure - and the University of Manitoba has it. Our three campuses are comprised of approximately 40 buildings (including 19 libraries and hundreds of laboratories) situated on more than 240 hectares of land. The University is also completing a 100,000 sq. ft. fitness facility to promote health and wellness, as there’s more to campus life than academics. Healthy minds come from healthy bodies, as well as shared values and a sense of belonging.
Last, but not least, our community welcomes you. The University of Manitoba is home to more than 29,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Over 20% of the graduate student population is international, creating a diverse and inclusive community.
I encourage you to peruse our webpages; I think you’ll find that we have what you’re looking for. Define your future at the University of Manitoba.
