ABOUT US

In Canada someone dies from heart disease every seven minutes. In 2012/13, cardiovascular disease accounted for 28% of all deaths in Manitoba. We are here to change those statistics.

As Manitoba's only tertiary-level cardiac patient care provider, the WRHA Cardiac Sciences Program aims to deliver the highest quality of care and treatment for heart disease and heart-related issues to patients from across the province as well as Northwestern Ontario and Nunavut.

Working to improve the health and quality of life for those affected by heart disease, the WRHA Cardiac Sciences Program integrates and delivers comprehensive care through advanced cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac anesthesia, cardiac intensive care and cardiac rehabilitation all under one coordinated infrastructure.

The majority of the Program's cardiac services are centralized at St. Boniface Hospital, which enhances the co-ordination of cardiac care delivery and facilitates a multi-disciplinary, highly collaborative approach. Some cardiology and diagnostic services are provided at the Health Sciences Centre and other WRHA hospitals. Cardiac rehabilitation is provided at the Reh-Fit Centre and Seven Oaks Wellness Institute in the city, and rehabilitation programs are offered in some other regional health authorities.

With a vision to becoming a world class heart institute, the WRHA Cardiac Sciences Program also undertakes a wide range of cardiac research into all aspects of heart disease - prevention, care, early detection and treatment.

To improve the cardiac health of Manitobans by providing the highest standard of patient-centred care, education and research.
