Family Social Sciences is interdisciplinary.

In our research and in the courses we teach, we take an innovative approach that integrates a variety of theories and methods, drawing from anthropology, community health sciences, economics, epidemiology, gender studies, psychology, public health, sociology, and others.

Family Social Sciences is about well-being.

We take a culturally-sensitive holistic approach that emphasizes the connections and interactions between individuals, families & communities. We explain the important links between neighbourhoods, brain growth, personality traits, intergenerational influences, economic factors, social policies, and much, much more.

In Family Social Sciences, you not only learn about prevention, you do prevention.

You learn how the social determinants of health affect our daily lives. And then, you learn how to plan, implement and evaluate programs that positively impact the social determinants of health in the daily lives of children, older adults, families and communities. You also have the opportunity to get hands-on, practical experience in your local community, or the global community.

Family Social Sciences is innovative.

You can design your own program, choosing to become an expert in the areas that most interest you and where you want your future to take you.

In FSS, you learn how to make a difference.
