Our well-being is profoundly affected by the communities in which we live, and the nature of social capital in our daily lives. In this area, you will learn about issues ranging from community assessment and development, to the impact of poverty on health and well-being.

Requirements for Completing a Master’s Degree in Family Social Sciences with a Focus on Inner City Families and Communities

  • FMLY 7920 Globalization, Families and Communities
  • FMLY 7930 Social Development in Theory and Practice
  • Family Social Sciences Seminar* within the first 12 months of the program
  • 1 elective at the 7000 level from within the department
  • 1 elective at the 7000 level within the department or 5000 level (or higher) outside the department
  • 9 credit hours* of methodology courses from the department approved list
  • a research thesis

*Important Note: These requirements are pending approval from the Faculty of Graduate Studies; it is anticipated that they will apply to all new MSc students entering the program in September 2010.
