Family Social Science students have an exciting new opportunity to engage in research as part of their undergraduate program. If you are interested in continuing your studies at the graduate level, or in impressing your potential employer with research skills, FMLY 4500 may be right for you.
The Senior Thesis was created to:
- provide senior students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to research.
- enable students to learn in a self-directed manner while under the supervision of an experienced researcher.
- provide research experience in reviewing scientific literature, formulating questions, conducting an empirical investigation, and writing a major report.
- develop knowledge translation skills, such as communicating main results in a presentation held at the end of the course, and/or submit results work for publication.
An application is required and should be completed in consultation with the faculty member who will supervise your thesis.
Pre-requisites: Completion of 84 credit hours in the Family Social Sciences program and consent of the Head of the Department.
Potential Topics 2012-13:
1) Relationship between time spent in caregiving, and stress and well-being measures using the 2010 General Social Survey. Contact: Dr. Karen Duncan
2) Exploring factors related to financial literacy using the Canadian Financial Capability Survey. Contact: Dr. Karen Duncan
3) Elder abuse; living with a neurological condition across the lifespan; local and international aging issues. Contact: Dr. Kerstin Roger
