Research Interests:

My rural upbringing in Saskatchewan and interest in rural life have guided my research ambitions. Broadly speaking, my research contributes to the sociological investigations of leisure and recreation, and wellbeing within a rural community context. In particular, I have explored the complexities of rural restructuring, such as industry and school closures, and the impact it has on rural community life. Through my research projects I have touched on a variety of topic areas such as gender, rural youth and family recreation, recreation and leisure, sense of community, leisure education, and community development. Another area of research I’m engaged in includes leisure education (literacy) development, programming, and evaluation. Exploring the influence of leisure education (literacy) on individual and community wellbeing is of interest to me.
