Duckworth Challenge

The 2011-12 Duckworth Challenge was captured by Manitoba Bisons after a 2-2 result and winning by five points in the new tie-breaker system - first time used. Manitoba currently holds a winning Duckworth Challenge overall record of 11-5-5 in the contest's 21 year history. The Bisons have won the last three Challenge years.

In 2010-11 season, after the women’s basketball and volleyball matches at both venues, there was a special ceremony to honour the previous Duckworth Challenge Player of the Game recipients during the first 20 year history.

The Duckworth Challenge was started by Dr. Henry E. Duckworth (president of the University of Winnipeg from 1971-81 and Chancellor of the University of Manitoba from 1986-92) in an effort to profile the intense but friendly cross-town rivalry between the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. It originated in the 1991-92 season.
