LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team seems to like the roll of spoiler, as they knocked off the visiting Manitoba Bisons, 69-63 Saturday night.

Having already been eliminated from post-season contention, the Horns completed the weekend sweep of GPAC teams that are going head to head for home court in the opening round of the playoffs. Heading into the weekend, the Bisons and Winnipeg Wesmen were tied at 8-10 and both leave the province of Alberta still tied after both teams were swept.

While tight through out the opening three quarters, the Bisons led for the majority of the first 30 minutes, but their lead was never larger than six points. The Horns opened the fourth on a 10-0 run to take the lead at 51-45, a lead that they would never relinquish.

The Horns were solid from the field all night, hitting on 40% and an exceptional performance from the charity stripe proved to be the difference. The Horns hit on 21 of 24 from the free throw line.

On senior night, fifth year senior Candace Thompson (Bow Island, AB) led the charge for the Horns leading all point getters with 18 points. Stephanie Elford (Calgary, AB, 2nd year) continued her strong play for the Horns picking up 14 points. Kait Flett (Winnipeg, MB, 2nd year) led the Bisons in a losing cause with 15 points, while Tessa Klassen (Winnipeg, MB, 2nd year) and Muba Ilelaboyae (Winnipeg, MB, 1st year) each chipped in with 13 points.

With the win the Horns improve to 5-15, while the Bisons fall to 8-12.
