2008 playoffs for Manitoba Bison teams
Four of the six team sports make post-season action

Here is a rundown after the 2007-08 Canada West regular season ends for the majority of Manitoba Bisons teams. Four of the six team sports have qualified for post-season action.
Women’s Volleyball
Currently ranked #1 in the nation (they have held the top spot for all 12 weeks during the season), Manitoba finished with an 18-2 record and enters the playoffs as the first place finisher in Canada West. With the first place position, Manitoba will receive a bye in the first round of the post-season and host the Final Four (Canada West Championship) at the Investors Group Athletic Centre from February 22-23. This is the second time the Bisons have hosted the Final Four. The Canada West Final Four starts on Friday, February 22 at 6 p.m. (Manitoba plays in Semi Final #1) and 8 p.m. (Semi Final #2). On Saturday, February 23, the bronze medal match will start at 6 p.m. and gold medal match at 8 p.m. Women’s Hockey
Manitoba completed the season in second place in the conference after setting team records for wins and points with an 18-4-2 record for 38 points. This is the first time the program has hosted a Canada West playoff match since the 2001-02 season. They host the #8 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies. The best-of-three Canada West Semi-Final series begins at the Max Bell Arena on Friday, February 15 at 7 p.m. Game two starts on Saturday, February 16 at 3 p.m. and, if necessary, game three will be played on Sunday, February 17 at 2 p.m. All games will be played at the Max Bell Arena. The winner of the series earns a berth to the CIS Championship, which occurs in March. Women’s Basketball
The Bisons finished with an 8-14 record and enters the playoffs as the third place finisher in the Great Plains Division. The Bisons will travel on the road for the Canada West Divisional Semi-Final against the Winnipeg Wesmen (8-14) in a best-of-three series. The best-of-three series begins on Thursday, February 14 at 7 p.m. Game two starts on Saturday, February 16 at 2 p.m. and, if necessary, game three will be played on Sunday, February 17 at 2 p.m. All games at the Duckworth Centre. Men’s Hockey
Manitoba will complete their regular season this weekend and have secured the fourth spot in the Canada West standings with a 12-12-2 record. The Bisons will either host UBC or Regina depending on the results of the final weekend of conference regular season. The Herd will play on Friday, February 15 at the MTS Centre to avoid conflict with Bison women’s hockey playoffs and then finish the regular season at Max Bell Arena at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 16. The Canada West Quarter-Final best-of-three series begins on Friday, February 22 at 7 p.m. Game two starts on Saturday, February 23 at 7 p.m. and, if necessary, game three will be played on Sunday, February 24 at 7 p.m. All games at Max Bell Arena. The Bisons finished eighth in the Canada West standings with a 7-11 record and missed post-season action by two points. Men’s Basketball
The Bisons finished the regular season with a 6-16 record and did not qualify for the post-season. Swimming
The Bisons have qualified four swimmers (two women and two men) so far for the CIS Championships in Vancouver on Feb. 21-23. There is one more opportunity for Bison swimmers to qualify for Nationals at the Western Canadian Championship in Victoria from Feb. 14-17. Track and Field
The Bisons will compete at the Canada West Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Saskatoon. This will be the last best chance for athletes to qualify for the CIS Championship in Montreal running from Mar. 6-8. Manitoba has so far qualified Vicky Robson in women’s pole vault, Garth Suppes in men’s weight toss and Jana Cassidy in women’s 300m to the CIS Championship.
