The Manitoba Bisons men’s hockey team continues to build towards the 2013-14 season. Bison men’s hockey head coach Mike Sirant, moving into his 18th season at Manitoba, is pleased to announce the commitment of forward Taylor Dickin to the Bison program for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

“We are very excited to have Taylor join the Bisons for the 2013-14 season. Taylor was a dominant player in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League before moving on to the University of North Dakota,” commented Sirant. “He attracted much interest from the Toronto Maple Leafs who invited him to several of their prospect development camps. He is a big body forward with good hands and puck protection skills making it difficult to get the puck off of him. Taylor skates very well and can score. We expect him to bring offense to the Bison lineup.”

Dickin, 24, was a red-shirt with Manitoba during the 2012-13 season after playing two seasons (2010-11 and 2011-12) at the University of North Dakota. Prior to the Bisons, the 6’2”, 195 lbs. forward scored four points (two goals, two assist) in 32 overall games in the WCHA (Western Collegiate Hockey Association – Division 1) for North Dakota. His first WCHA goal was a game-winner and series clincher tally against Michigan Tech. Dickin was named on the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2011-12.

Dickin also played three seasons (2007-08 to 2009-10) with the Selkirk Steelers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) and was named league MVP while improving his scoring totals in all three years. Dickin was named MJHL Most Valuable Player and MJHL First Team All-Star in 2009-10 season after amassing 92 points (40 goals, 52 assists) with 94 penalty minutes in 62 regular season games and added seven points (1g, 6a) in six playoff games in 2010. Overall, he averaged a point a game in the MJHL by producing 183 points (85g, 98a) in 182 regular seasons games.

Dickin was also part of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs prospect camp in summer of 2010 and is a graduate of River East Collegiate.
