Bisons Taylor Pischke and Garth Pischke honoured at Sport Manitoba’s annual Night of Champions that showcases Manitoba’s Best in Amateur Sport

Sport Manitoba’s annual Night of Champions presented by Manitoba Chicken Producers recognizes the remarkable achievements of our province’s athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers in amateur sport. Two Bisons were slected among the winners.
Sport award recipients announced on April 30, 2013 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre included: Manitoba Junior Female Athlete of the Year Taylor Pischke, Volleyball – Winnipeg and Manitoba Male Coach of the Year Garth Pischke, Volleyball – Winnipeg.
In 2012, Taylor represented Manitoba well, as she became the youngest female ever to win the Senior Women’s Open Championship at Canada’s National Beach Volleyball Championship. She was also the first Manitoban to be selected to the Junior National Beach Volleyball Team, and was chosen to be on Team Canada’s Senior National Women’s Indoor Volleyball Team. During the 2012-13 school year, Taylor played left side hitter with the Bisons women’s volleyball team at the University of Manitoba, where she maintains a 4.21 GPA.
Garth started 2012 by guiding the Manitoba Bisons men’s volleyball team to the CIS National Championship and a bronze medal finish as head coach in his 31st year. The team again made the playoffs in the 2012-13 season and Garth surpassed the 1,200 overall win total during the calendar year – the most wins for coach in CIS history for any sport.
