After a successful kickoff of the 2013 football season at the new stadium – Investors Group Field – on the U of Manitoba Fort Garry campus, the Manitoba Bisons seek their first winning streak when they host the #9 Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday, September 7 at 5 p.m. CT. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations.

The Bisons opened the new season with a 65-41 home win over Alberta in front of a boisterous crowd on August 30. In week one, Saskatchewan also won 40-33 against Regina at home and now there is a three way tie for first in the Canada West standings along with five-time and defending Canada West champion Calgary with a 1-0 record in 2013.

Last season, Manitoba split the conference regular season series against Saskatchewan (Manitoba won 31-28 at Manitoba on Sept. 8/12; Sask. won 44-39 at home on Oct. 12/12) and overall during Brian Dobie’s 17 year tenure has a 7-7 conference regular season record versus the Huskies at home and overall is 12-12 in regular season.

This will be the first of two meetings this season between the two teams (Fri., Oct. 18 at Saskatchewan on 8 p.m. CT).

In the 2013 season, there are seven of 12 starters on the offence and seven of the 12 starters on defence return to the Bison squad. Positions that will have new Bison starters include quarterback, receiver, punter, linebacker and safety. This is the first year that there are no remaining players on this year’s edition that were part of the 2007 Vanier team.

Bison Football Notes: Kickoff will occur at 5 p.m. and the game can be seen live on SHAW TV Manitoba as Canada West Game of the Week plus heard live on radio on UMFM 101.5 (umfm.com). The Bisons set numerous team records during the 65-41 win including most points scored in a half (46 in first half), most points scored in a quarter (32 in second), third most overall points in a game (65), second most rushing yards in a game (400) and second most offence yards in a game (628).
