Two-time Canada West men’s hockey MVP and Bison forward Blair Macaulay, 25, has agreed to terms the Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, for the 2013-14 season. His younger brother and defenceman Scott also joins him on the team.
Macaulay played four seasons (2009-13) at Manitoba and was selected as a two-time Canada West men’s hockey MVP during 2011-12 and 2012-13 season – only the second player in the award's 35-year history to win the award in consecutive seasons. The Winnipeg native had a very successful career with the Bisons and his accolades included being named a 2012-13 CIS First Team All-Canadian, 2011-12 CIS Second Team All-Canadian, being named Canada West First Team All-Star in three consecutive seasons (2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13) and part of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets 2012 Development Camp roster.
The 5’11”, 185 lbs. forward was also an alternate captain in 2012-13 season for Manitoba and finished Top 10 in numerous Canada West categories including assists (tied for second with 23), goals (tied for eighth with 12), plus/minus rating (tied for ninth with +16), power play assists (tied for eighth with eight), shots on goal (second with 103) and game winning goals (tied for third with four).
He led the Bisons in scoring the past three seasons and accumulated 118 points (56 goals, 62 assists) in 112 conference regular season games during his four year career.
“Talking to Troy and seeing his interest in me was the biggest factor in me coming to Bakersfield,” Macaulay said. “He understood the type of player I am and what I can bring to the ice. My brother also said it was a good town and a good place to play. It's my first-year pro and I hope to contribute as much as possible.”
Condors Head Coach Troy Mann commented, “He's a two-time MVP who we have high hopes for this season. Skilled guy who's grown his game this past couple of seasons and is now ready for the pro game.”
