Kirby Schepp
Head Coach

In the 2011-12 season, Schepp enters his third season as the head coach of the Bisons after leading to team back to the Canada West playoffs.  In just two short years the team has managed to turn a winning season (17-16 in 2009-10) and has renewed the spirit of the of the program among the alumni and community.

Before taking over the Bisons, Schepp amassed a wealth of experience at many levels. He was the head coach of the Silver Heights (Sturgeon Heights) Huskies for 14 seasons and led the team to the 'AAAA' Provincial Final Four seven times in the last nine years he was at the helm. He also coached the Manitoba provincial team for six summers, most recently at the 2009 Canada Summer Games.

In the last three summers, Schepp has coached with the Canadian Cadet National team (17U) program where he helped lead them to bronze medals at the 2009 and 2011 FIBA Americas Tournament and a bronze medal at 2010 FIBA World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

Schepp is also very involved in the re-development of the NCCP model at the national level and is one of Manitoba's few Master Learning Facilitators.  He previously served as Basketball Manitoba’s High Performance Coach, Head Coach of the Centre for Performance, President of the Manitoba Basketball Coaching Association and was an assistant coach at the the University of Winnipeg from 1996-2001 and playing at the University of Winnipeg from 1993-96.

In addition to his coaching prowess, Schepp has a Masters in Education (Coaching) from the University of Victoria, Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg, National Coaching Certification Program Level 3 and was selected as Canada’s representative and head basketball coach at Generations for Peace, International Sport Development programs held in Amman, Jordan in late November 2008.

Schepp replaced departing Bison men’s basketball head coach Rick Suffield in the Spring of 2009.

Ogo Okwumabua
Assistant Coach

Okwumabua was a star forward with the Manitoba Bisons for five seasons from 1995-2000. He was a two-time GPAC all star in 1998 and 2000.

Okwumabua went on to play professionally with the Winnipeg Cyclone of the IBL in 2000. After his playing career, Okwumabua went on to coach at Fort Richmond Collegiate where he built a very successful program and led the team to the 'AAAA' provincial championship game in just his first year with the program. He later moved on to be the Head Coach at Red River College where he led the Rebels to two consecutive MCAC finals appearances.

Jeff Laping
Assistant Coach

Laping is in his second season coaching with the Bisons heading into the 2011-12 season.

He is also the Athletic Director and Varsity Boys coach at St. Paul’s High School in Winnipeg where he has built one of the top programs in the Manitoba over the past 12 years. A perennial contender for the provincial championships, St. Paul’s has produced some of the top talent in the province of the past few years. Laping has also coached with Team Manitoba in the past two Canada Summer Games and serves as the President of the Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association

Herve Vincent
Assistant Coach

Vincent was born and raised in France where his dedication to the game began in 1988 when he joined a basketball club. He has been involved in coaching since 1997 where he started as a volunteer and became a certified coach in 2005. He earned his degrees in sociology, education and sports training.
Vincent has coached and trained players at all levels, from youth to adult, at both the city and national level for 13 years. He has experience in promoting basketball via presentations in schools, community centers, university, tournaments and skill camps.

From 2006 to 2009, Vincent worked as a technical supervisor for the youth basketball development program in the SPO Rouen club, where he developed and implemented specifics youth skills program. He was nominated head coach for the best grade 6 player's selection at the regional level.

In 2009, Vincent moved to Winnipeg and joined the Junior Bisons program and started his work with Basketball Manitoba's Centre for Performance and Todd MacCulloch Hoops School programs. He started his certification in Canada, and has traveled in 10 countries where he has played basketball in every visited city. Vincent is a excellent skills and fundamentals coach who works diligently at developing the individual abilities of Bisons to their fullest.
