Dive into the Joyce Fromson Swimming Pool!

We offer a variety of fitness programs, adult swimming lessons and certifications courses and lap swim/drop-in recreation in the Joyce Fromson Swimming Pool. Our pool includes a six-lane saltwater swimming pool and diving area and our programs cater to the general public as well as university students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Private lessons

Pool Temperatures

Please note that the temperature of the pool is 28ºC. This pool is a training centre for high performance athletes and it must be maintained at this temperature.

Pool Closures

In the event of an unplanned pool closure, a credit will be placed on the computer file of the swimming lesson participants affected. The credit amount will be for the missed class only and can be used for any Active Living program for one year. Where possible, every effort will be made to notify parents/participants of the closure.

  • May 7, 2013 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm, an additional 3 lanes are CLOSED.
  • May 13, 2013 from 2:00pm - 3:00pm, an additional 3lanes and the Deep End will be CLOSED.
  • June 19th from 12:00pm -1:00pm, 3 lanes will be CLOSED. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Adult Swim Lessons

It’s never too late to learn to swim, or improve your stoke!

Recreation Swim

  1. Children (ages 7 and younger) attending Recreation Swim must be accompanied, in the water, by their parent/guardian. The child must be within arm’s reach of the parent at all times.
    1. Parents/ Guardians supervising children 5-7 years or age must not be responsible for more than 4 children.
    2. Parents/ Guardians supervising children 4 years and younger must not be responsible for more than 2 children.
    3. Parents supervising infants or children with special needs must not be responsible for more than 1 child.
  2. Children (ages 8-14) attending Recreation Swim must be accompanied, in the general area, by their parent/guardian. It is not required that the parent/guardian be in the water with the child, but must be in the pool area. If the child wishes to swim in the deep end the lifeguard will require that the child complete a swim competency test. If this test is not passed, the child will be required to wear a lifebelt/lifejacket while in the deep end, or be accompanied, and within arm’s reach, of their parent.
  3. Children/Youth (ages 15 years and older) attending Recreation Swim may do so without accompaniment and may be considered a guardian to younger children.

Lifeguards are responsible for the care and safety of all patrons using the aquatic facilities. Pool users may be asked, at anytime, to demonstrate swimming competency and/or wear a lifebelt/lifejacket.

Joyce Fromson Pool Deep End

Bannatyne Campus (Joe Doupe Centre): There are no Aquatics programs currently offered at the Bannatyne Campus.
