The following are descriptions of the fitness programs available at the University of Manitoba (Fort Garry Campus). THESE CLASSES ARE INCLUDED WITH YOUR MEMBERSHIP. All abilities are welcome to participate as these are non-competitive and fun programs to make everyone feel good.
All fitness instructors employed by Bison Recreation Services are accredited through the Manitoba Fitness Council (MFC).
ATHLETIC WORKOUT (AW) - An intense fullbody workout for men and women who are currently training or for those who want an additional challenge to their regular routine.
BODY FUSION (BF) - A non stop flow of yoga poses makes this class physically and mentally challenging. Focus is on increased knowledge of how to blend different poses in a faster pace yet in full control. As a result the movements become more like a slow fluid dance.
BOSU WORKOUT (BW) - Looking for something new and different? Then Bosu workout is perfect for you! This class combines core strength, balance and co-ordination to give you a workout unlike anything you have tried before.
CARDIO WORKOUT (CW) –Cardio Workout brings you a variety of original dance music styles and a cardio workout that improves core body strength and provides an enjoyable stretch and cool-down at the end.
CIRCUIT TRAINING (CT) – This class focuses on muscular strength and endurance! It’s simple to follow & easy to measure progress.
CYCLE FITNESS (CF) - The music is the road in this indoor cycle class. Challenge yourself to try something new! Cycling is a great way to improve your overall fitness.
FIRM & FLEX (FF) - No fitness program is complete without a muscular strength training aspect to it. Using hand weights, tubing, dynabands and SPRI bands, this class will help to make you feel stronger to perform activities of daily living.
FITBALL WORKOUT (FW) - This class is a fun, effective and challenging workout on the ball that may combine cardio, strength, core stability and flexibility training.
HARD CORE STRETCH (HCS) - Combine static, active-isolated and dynamic techniques with balance, stability and strength for a one-of-a-kind stretching experience. Easy combinations and transitions which flow into the next movement.
IN STEP (IS) - Using Reebok benches, try interesting and fun combinations that will keep you mentally and physically challenged. Step your way to fitness!
KICKAEROBICS (KA) - This integrated workout is guaranteed to give participants confidence, strength, balance and cardiovascular endurance all together. Kick and punch it up with one of the hottest classes going.
LOW IMPACT (LOW) - Low impact moves with the intensity that will challenge your cardiovascular system and double your energy while being easier on your joints.
STEP INTERVAL (SI & Muscle) - A challenging combination of step and muscle conditioning. The step cardio segment is 4-6 minutes in length and the muscle conditioning segments are 3-5 minutes.
STEP, SKIP'N KICK (SS & KA) - A fun combination of your favourites into one! This will also include some Kickaerobics to really get you fit.
SHALLOW WATER AQUAFIT (SW) - This is the shallow water class you have been looking for. Use the water’s natural buoyancy to get the most out of your workout with limited impact but lots of water resistance.
TABATA TRAINING (TT) - High intensity intermittent exercise, alternating with short & intense anaerobic exercises with lesser intense recovery style exercises. Following 2:1 ratio or for example 20 seconds intense exercise and 10 seconds of rest.
