Classes are fun, unique and challenging. Registration is NOT required and all skill and fitness levels are welcome.
Bison Recreation Services fitness instructors are accredited through the Manitoba Fitness Council (MFC).
4 X 4 - 4 minutes of Step followed by 4 minutes of Hi/Lo - Repeated
4 X 4 X 4 - 4 minutes of Step followed by 4 minutes of Hi/Lo followed by 4 minutes of Resistance - Repeated
BODY CONDITIONING - Combine alternating segments of upper and lower body strength exercises for an energizing, NON-cardio type of workout, using step, weights, bands and mats.
BODY BLITZ -Ten minute intervals of Cardio Fusion, Hi Lo, Kickboxing, Resistance Training & Yoga.
BOOT CAMP - Combine Hi-Lo floor moves, muscle work using weights, stability balls and/or dynabands, and a low bench for speed and agility in an intense workout. This one is guaranteed to bring a sweat to your brow!
BOSU - A mixture of cardio and strength training. Uses simple step choreography and dumb bells.
BOX IT UP – Boxercise style cardio and strength training intervals.
CARDIO BALL - Traditional Hi-Lo moves are extra challenging and fun, when using the ball for throws, bounces and catches. A strength component using the ball is also included.
CARDIO BOOTCAMP - Hi intensity cardio exercises designed to challenge you aerobically. Use a variety of cardio equipment to keep you moving and sweating.
CARDIO DANCE - A mix of dance styles for a fun cardio workout. You may see hip hop, latin, disco, jazz and ballet.
CARDIO EXPLOSION - A mixture of cardio styles - hi/lo, kickboxing, step - with a little bit of strength training added in.
CARDIO FUSION – Blend world beat dance warm-up, using BIG flowing movements with the ‘Sun Salutation’, followed by Pilates-styled core work and end with extended relaxation and meditation for a very special workout.
CARDIO MAX - These classes maximize the time for the cardio component with just warm-up, cardio, cool-down and stretch. The schedule indicates whether it is step, Hi-Lo or a combination of both. Be ready for a great cardio workout!
DOUBLE STEP - Use two steps to double your workout. Steps are arranged before class in rows of single riser, or double risers. This is a dynamic AND fun step class!
FLEXIBLE FUSION - A step class with a slightly slower tempo that uses well-known yoga poses for a cardio workout with strength and toning built-in.
FUSION - Blend world beat dance warm-up, using BIG flowing movements with the ‘Sun Salutation’, followed by Pilates-styled core work and end with extended relaxation and meditation for a very special workout.
GO WITH THE FLO - Challenge your strength and flexibility while finding your inner calm with this flowing mix of Yoga and Pilates moves. This is a faster paced class than traditional Yoga; the standing and balancing poses, which keep you pumped up, while the floor work focuses on breathing techniques and improving your flexibility!
GROUP POWER - A strength training class using a variety of equipment. May use a step bench, dumb bells, resistance bands, stability balls or BOSU.
GUT n' BUTT - Specifically focuses on abs and glutes, using weights, bands and body weight. Steps can be used as a platform to achieve different levels and positions! It’s a great feeling!
HI-LO - Move on the floor in this invigorating workout. With or without the impact -- it's up to you!
HIGH UPPER/LOWER BODY BLAST – This class starts off as a Hi-Lo workout and then focuses on either the upper or lower muscles in your body.
INTERVAL - Combine alternating segments of cardio and upper body strength, or switching between step and Hi-Lo.
KICK-IT - This class mixes traditional Hi-Lo and kickboxing moves. It’s a real change, and a great chance to kick-it up a notch!
LOW-IMPACT - This cardio workout combines low impact moves -- easier on the joints, with NO bouncing!
MUSCLE STEP - The first half of this class is step, followed by upper body and back strength conditioning using weights, stability balls and/or dynabands.
ON THE BALL - Exercise balls, weights and bands are used to challenge your balance, strength and flexibility with an emphasis on posture and stabilization of core body areas. No cardio component.
STEP - Reebok benches are used for this step aerobics class. Beginners to intermediate levels are taught. Step your way to fitness!
STEP/HI-LO COMBO - Half of this workout is Hi-Lo aerobics and the other half is step; incorporate the best of BOTH worlds.
STEP INTERVAL – Basic step and muscle or stability ball cardio intervals.
STEP & SCULPT - A half hour fast-paced cardio workout and 15 minutes of strength training and stretching.
STEP & SCULPT 2 - A step class with a slightly slower tempo and beginner level choreography. Uses light dumb bells through the whole class.
STEP & SKIP - A challenging and fun combination. Excellent cardio workout!
STRENGTH ONLY - Focus on working as many muscles as possible using weights and dynabands. There are no cardio components in this class.
SUPER STEP – Same great workout as the step classes, but with added choreography.
ZUMBA INTERVAL - Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Zumba Interval introduces muscular conditioning at two-three points throughout the class to enhance the workout from cardio to include muscle toning at the same time.
ZUMBA TONING - When it comes to body sculpting, Zumba Toning raises the bar (or rather, the toning stick). It combines targeted body-sculpting exercises and high-energy cardio work with Latin-infused Zumba moves to create a calorie-torching, strength-training dance fitness-party. Students learn how to use lightweight, maraca-like Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all their target zones, including arms, abs, glutes and thighs. Zumba Toning is the perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast.
Classes are subject to change. Participation and openings are on a first-come, first-served basis. The Director of Recreation Services has the right to limit program participation.
