Drake Centre

drake

The Drake Centre, home to the Asper School of Business since 1987, was designed by architect Etienne Gaboury. The Centre’s large central atrium brings natural light to all corners of the building.

Here you’ll find all classrooms, offices and facilities belonging to the Asper School of Business, as well as the Warren Centre for Actuarial Studies and the Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship.

Amenities for Asper students include:

Albert D. Cohen Management Library

The Albert D. Cohen Management Library supports the study, research and teaching needs of students, faculty and staff at the Asper School of Business. The Library also supports the Transport Institute, the Warren Centre for Actuarial Studies and Research, and related undergraduate and graduate programs. Service extends to the business community and the general public.

Bloomberg terminalThe Library is home to the new state-of-the-art Financial Data Centre. The core of the Centre consists of ten Bloomberg terminals which have equipped faculty and students with one of the world’s leading financial knowledge tools and adds to the School’s competitive edge. The Centre gives students access to the latest financial data and the ability to complete projects that focus on real-life business decisions, helping to bridge business theory with practice.

The Library has 20 public terminals, which provide access to the Library Catalogue and numerous business and management online resources. In addition to being a terrific study space, library staff can provide students with research assistance.

Study Spaces

Drake LobbyThe Atrium on the main floor of the Drake Centre is always a buzzing hub of student activity at the Asper School. Famous for the orange modular furniture, this space can easily accommodate guest speakers, luncheons, a full-blown Homecoming party, or the annual Buddy Day event that welcomes new students to the School. The atrium is a great place to meet, eat lunch, work on projects, or just relax. On a daily basis you can find Asper student groups in booths along the Library wall, promoting their events and activities. On a good day, you might also buy baking, pancakes or bubble tea from a student group holding a fundraiser for one of the many philanthropic organizations supported by Asper students.

Fishbowl"The Fishbowl" is the nickname for the Asper Commerative Room, located just off the Atrium. This space is dedicated to the Asper School's namesake, Dr. Israel Asper, an entrepreneur and philathropist. It gets its nickname from the floor-to-ceiling glass wall connecting it to the Atrium. Small tables and chairs and modular furniture make it a popular venue for student group meetings, studying, and group project work. Inspirational quotes and words from Dr. Asper surround the upper walls.

The open study area on the third floor is a large open space with plenty of power outlets, tables and chairs, well suited to group project or individual work. This is always a busy study zone and is best accessed by the main stairs. At certain times during the year, it is used for career development functions, trade shows and overflow for events.

The Sony Study Centre is a quiet study space on the third floor of the Drake Centre, located behind the open study area and above the Albert D. Cohen Management Library. This space includes study carrels, power outlets, and plenty of natural light and windows. This space is ideal for quiet individual work. In the fall of 2013 the faculty performed a major facelift to the space, which included painting, new carpeting and new study carrels, complete with a red accent wall the colour of the Asper Chevron logo.

Additional tables and chairs for study or group work are located in front of the 3rd and 6th floor elevators and by the 3rd floor Donor Wall.
