Bachelor of Commerce Luncheon - Tuesday, September 3, 2013

The Bachelor of Commerce Luncheon is our way of officially welcoming you to the Asper School of Business and beginning your degree the best way possible -- with food!

Okay, so there's more to it than that. Here's why you should really come:

  • You'll be seated next to other new Asper students, an Asper professor, a leading business professional with close ties to the school (otherwise known as an “Associate”), and an experienced Asper student. These guests can help you chart your future as an Asper student.
  • You'll get to listen to an exciting keynote speaker.
  • The BComm Luncheon will give you your first taste of an Asper business event.
  • You'll be welcomed into the prestigious Asper community through the official pinning ceremony. (Believe us, you want this pin!)

While this event may seem a bit intimidating, just remember: everyone at the luncheon is, or has been, a first-year student too!

Here's what else you should know about the BComm Luncheon:

  1. You'll receive your invitation in a welcome letter from the Dean in August.
  2. Use the information provided in your invitation to RSVP for the luncheon online.
  3. You'll want to arrive at the luncheon before 11:30 a.m.
  4. This event is for first year students only... so unfortunately you are unable to bring any guests. But that's okay -- you'll be too busy making friends and building connections to mind!
  5. This is a “business” event so, you will want to suit up and bring your table manners. We'll provide more instructions on appropriate dress code and other questions you may have in the Luncheon FAQ sheet included in the invitation package.

We'll also post more info at umanitoba.ca/asper closer to the event, so check back then.

Buddy Day - Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Want to know how to get better acquainted with the people you'll be sitting next to in class? Follow these simple steps:

  1. Show up at the Drake Centre on Buddy Day and join a group of other new students.
  2. Say hi to your Big Buddy. (Each group will get one, we swear.)
  3. Follow your Buddy around. Enjoy a star-studded tour of the Drake Centre and get the low-down on what it’s really like to be an Asper student.
  4. Listen carefully. Your Buddy's gonna tell you all about the extra-curricular programs you can take part in. Hint: they're awesome.
  5. Meet the Dean of the Asper School. Dr. Michael Benarroch. Seriously cool guy.
  6. Enjoy the FREE STUFF.  (Oh, did we forget to mention? Some great companies are sponsoring the day in hopes of, you know, meeting you and making a good impression.)
  7. Let the good times roll! (We also organized a great BBQ and after party.)

Other Events to Watch Out For

  • Shine Day – Mid-September, help raise funds to fight Cystic Fibrosis while adding volunteer hours to your resume. Check out http://www.shinerama.ca/ to find out more!
  • Back-to-Jail Social – Party with your Asper buds. Better still, bring along your old buds and show them how business students party!
  • Commerce Olympics – Compete in gym activities and make friends.
  • Sign up for the First Year’s Committee - and bond with fellow first year students! Plan and coordinate your own events. Sign up in the Drake lobby.
  • Make sure you pick up a free copy of the Asper Handbook during the first week of school. Get organized and stay organized with an agenda and faculty contact information.
  • Keep your eyes peeled for posters and booths in the Drake lobby telling you about all of these activities and more!
  • Still overwhelmed? Dive right in! Or send us an email us at ASB_Info@umanitoba.ca
