Promotion and Tenure

The Faculty of Medicine values excellence, creativity and innovation in all pursuits.

The Faculty of Medicine values and rewards its faculty members’ engagement in all three pillars of academic activity, namely: research and scholarly activity; teaching; and service and administration.

The contributions of faculty members from a broad spectrum of roles and activities serve as an important and effective guide to career advancement. Promotion is recognition of past performance at a given academic rank, according to criteria and weightings established by the Faculty of Medicine, and in accordance with relevant governing policies and procedures of the University of Manitoba. The standards of assessment for promotion increase in relation with the academic rank under consideration.

Tenure is recognition by the Faculty of Medicine and the University of Manitoba that, based on previous successful accomplishments and contributions to research and scholarly activity, teaching, and service and administration, the department, Faculty of Medicine, and institution, should invest in a continuing appointment for a faculty member, with the expectation that previous performance is predictive of persistent and increasingly significant success and contributions.
