About Us - Mission Statement

PURPOSE
The University of Manitoba’s Division of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) strives to promote and provide relevant, needs-based assessment and educational activities to physicians, dentists and other health professionals to maintain and produce changes in knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours that will enable optimal provision of patient care.

CONTENT
The content of the University of Manitoba’s CPD programming includes assessment and educational activities which may address gaps in knowledge, competence or performance and outcomes identified by stakeholders. We will endeavour to develop and deliver CPD activities that promote lifelong learning and that support patient-centered, evidence-based and team-based care.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The major target audiences for CPD activities are physicians (family physicians, specialists and IMGs) and dentists practicing in Manitoba, but also include physicians and dentists from other provinces, other health care providers, medical learners and the community. Special attention will be provided to the needs of professionals working in rural and northern communities and serving Manitoba’s diverse ethnic and socio-economic groups.

ACTIVITIES
The mission is accomplished through the support, development, delivery and evaluation of a broad spectrum of educational activities including: assessment, remediation, conferences, grand rounds, workshops, review courses, videoconferences, webcasting, traineeships, longitudinal programming, simulation and enduring materials. Learning methods are selected based on the setting, identified needs, desired results and learning styles of the target audience.

RESULTS
Physicians, dentists and other health care providers will, as a result of the CPD program, express a desire for lifelong learning and demonstrate improved knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours. In addition to assessing the impact of educational activities on individual participants, the Division will endeavour to understand the impact these educational activities have on patient care.
