The Division of CPD oversees an approved examination developed by the Section of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Manitoba. The examination is a requirement for any physician wanting to provide official interpretation of EKGs in the Province of Manitoba, who are not certificants of the RCPSC in cardiology, or hold a certificate of special competence in cardiology.
General Information Regarding the EKG Exam
1. The exam can be written at a mutually agreeable time between the physician and the invigilator. (Contact Cindy Lewkiw at 204-977-5628 or
cindy.lewkiw@med.umanitoba.ca)
2. The fee for writing the EKG exam is $250 payable prior to writing the exam either by cheque (payable to the University of Manitoba), VISA or MasterCard.
3. There is no specific prep material, however please keep in mind that this is a very difficult exam.
4. The time allotted for the exam is 3 hours.
5. It can take up to four weeks to receive your score which will be sent by mail (Canada Post).
6. The exam scoring is very precise and strict. Remember: There are answers on each EKG tracing which, if chosen, will automatically assign a score of 0/5 for that tracing – even if you have otherwise identified all the other items correctly for that EKG.
