Residency Training

All applications for residency training at the University of Manitoba is handled through Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS). This include Canadian and US Medical School Graduates as well as  international medical graduates that wish to enter a medical residency.

CaRMS APPLICATIONS

The CaRMS Match is run in two iterations. To be eligible for participation in the first iteration, you must be either a medical student, or a graduate having obtained or in the process of obtaining a medical degree by July 1 of the match year from:

  • A Liaison Committee on Medical Education / Committee on Accreditation on Canadian Medical Schools (LCME/CACMS) accredited school
  • An international medical school listed with the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), published by the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER)

The first iteration of the CaRMS match will be open to both International Medical and Canadian Graduates. US graduates are given reciprocity with Canadians.

Remaining positions after the first iteration will be open to both Canadian and internationally-trained medical graduates in the second round, as well as physicians currently training and in practice.

IMG candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a graduate of a medical school listed by FAIMER. To see if your school is on the FAIMER list, click the following link: http://imed.ecfmg.org/ 
  • Be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada (notarized proof required)
  • A pass mark on the MCCEE exam
  • Have a TOEFL score of at least 100 computer-based (TOEFL-iBT) with minimum score of 25 for speaking and listening, or 600 written

IMG candidates who match are required to attend mandatory 4-week orientation program in June; remuneration shall be provided, and ACLS certification course if resident program requires it.


SPONSORED POSITION (Non CaRMS)

The Postgraduate Medical Education Office accepts applications from individuals sponsored by agencies approved by the  - Faculty of Medicine - University of Manitoba. 
  Applicants must apply with their home Sponsoring Agency who will direct the applications to the PGME office.

Applications from Sponsoring Agencies should be sent directly to Sponsored.PGME@med.umanitoba.ca in the format indicated below. 
Applications should come by PDF format titled as follows- full name and program applicants is applying to i.e. SMITH, Jane Internal Medicine

Applications will be accepted between March 1 2013-August 31, 2013 with the exception of Internal Medicine must be received by July 11, 2013
